So I hear that the Seahawks won the Superbowl.
Ok. I can support some local pride. Seattle isn’t used to having champion teams, and has gone just a little crazy. “Seattle Riots” apparently involve masses of people obeying traffic laws and drunk people breaking things. The crowds of people celebrating the Superbowl nearly shut down traffic yesterday. Commuting to work has been horrible – overcrowded streets, buses, and ferries.
Incidentally, Seattlites pitched in and paid for the repairs to property. People kept it together and have survived the record crowds with our usual cool aplomb.
And THIS is what I really mean when I say I can support some local pride. Not the Seahawks, they are incidental.
So here is what I would like: thank someone today. Thank a teacher, or doctor, or nurse, or police officer, or a firefighter, or a social worker, or some random good Samaritan. People who help make a difference in the world. Regular, everyday people are better than we give them credit for.
